Foot & Ankle Fellowship

Our BOFAS (British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society) -approved post-CCT fellowship has been running since 2019 with our first fellow now commencing their substantive consultant appointment. The fellowship provides unparalleled experience in foot and ankle trauma and post-traumatic reconstruction as well as adult hind and forefoot elective practice. Fellows have an opportunity to combine elements of foot and ankle practice with limb reconstruction within our tight-knit MDT.

BARTS BONE & JOINT HEALTH

What do our fellows do?

The fellowship is based at The Royal London Hospital and Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre over six months. The post provides a learning environment for tackling complex cases with the freedom as the fellow makes progress to perform surgery within the fellow’s skillset with an appropriate degree of supervision. In this way we have been able to ensure that fellows are well prepared to successfully take up a consultant appointment.

We conduct monthly multidisciplinary meetings with our consultant colleagues in the limb reconstrution group. The trauma and orthopaedic department conducts a daily trauma MDT at 8am based at the Royal London Hospital which the fellow attends.

The fellow is expected to lead on the department’s research and audit activities and take a leading role in education for more junior trainees.

requirements

This is a competitive post. UK and International applicants are welcome.  Applicants require full GMC registration and are required to have completed their higher orthopaedic training programme.

Successful candidates will be expected to deal with the day to day running of the firm and will be expected to be able to operate on complex elective spine cases as well as complex trauma cases. There will often be overlap with the adult trauma team for polytrauma patients, especially for spino-pelvic trauma. Fellows should have a background of finishing projects, publishing research, running QI projects and enjoying teaching/mentoring junior members of the team.
